Instituted in 1973 (and made retrospective to include qualifying service since 15 August 1947) The Wound Medal, or Parakram Padak is awarded to any personnel who incur wounds due to enemy action including counter-insurgency operations, and is worn before all campaign and service medals
Eligibility for the medal is open to all-ranks of all of India's uniformed services including, the Indian armed forces, reserve & territorial forces, and those in Railway Protection Force, police forces Home Guards or any other specified force
