During the Great War this order was widely awarded to Allied military officers, in particular officiers of the Army Service Corps & Army Veterinary Corps of the British Army, and similar British Empire & Commonwealth units involved in logistics, remount and veterinary services and food supply & distribution. For example the London Gazette issue of 13 January 1920, contained the details of 9 x British Officers awarded the 'Officer' class of the Order of Agricultural Merit for 'War Services'
