The recipient was an Indian soldier serving with the 2nd Battalion 2nd Kashmir Imperial Service Rifles, an infantry battalion of the Jammu & Kashmir State Forces
Note: 2nd Battalion, 2nd Kashmir Imperial Service Rifles (Body Guard Regiment) had a short lived history. It was raised in 1917, under the command of Lt-Colonel Janak Singh, with an establishment of approximately 915 x 'All-Ranks', it's class composition comprised; Punjabi Mussalmans, Hindu Rajput Dogras & Gurkhas. The unit remained in India, and served in the Third Afghan War & North West Frontier operations of 1919. The battalion was disbanded in 1921
