King Birendra was murdered on, 1 June 2001, together with Queen Aishwarya and nine other members of the royal family, in the infamous Royal Palace Massacre, carried out by the crazed Crown Prince Dipendra, who himself died a few days later from the effects of self-inflicted gunshot wounds
