With twin Paris Mint (Monnaie de Paris) hallmark of twin 'Cornucopia' logos with numeral '1' between indented on flat edge of the rim

The medal was created by a decree dated, 3 April 1903, as a 'Medal of Honour' for award to the French police forces

In 1936, the obverse legend of the medal had the word 'rurale' removed, and was issued with different reverse design

The medal can be awarded for either specific acts of courage, meritorious service or, for 20 years long service
