The Defence Security Corps (DSC), that was raised in 1947, is a corps of the Indian Army responsible for providing security cover to the defence installations of the three services (Army, Navy, Air Force) and other sensitive installations. The DSC troops are sanctioned and attached to various bases/installations to ensure protection against sabotage and pilferage. It is the sixth largest corps of the Indian Army
Currently, the major sanction of DSC troops is for the Army and Air force installations. The Naval units and other user agencies have a sizeable deployment of this force. DSC troops also provide security to some of the Indian Ordnance Factories, India's nuclear laboratories, and Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) establishment
The origins of the Jammu and Kashmir Rifles - a multi-battalion infantry regiment of the Indian Army - date back to the early 19th Century, when the predecessor units served in the Jammu and Kashmir State Army. After the accession of the state to the Indian Union in October 1947, the State Forces came under the command of the Indian Army. They remained in their original form until 1956 when Jammu and Kashmir Constituent Assembly effectively ratified the state's accession to India. Thereafter the State Forces were restyled as the Jammu and Kashmir Regiment of the Indian Army. In 1963, the designation was changed to Jammu and Kashmir Rifles
