Reverse of badge customised with contemporary intricate long hinged pin and clasp fittings, and as-worn by the recipient. Almost certainly apadated for wear as a 'Pagri' badge on tropical helmet

The insignia is of top quality, and most likely as=-worn by an Officer or Senior NCO of the Argylls - the direct descendent unit of the famous 'Thin Red Line' of Crimean War fame
