The medal - abbreviated as OLM - was instituted on, 19 May 1961

Medal fitted with original silk corded riband, and 9mm crimp brooch mounting bar. This latter with contract makers hallmark 'G27' on reverse, and the bar retaining it's hinged pin & drop clasp fittings on reverse as issued

The NASA Outstanding Leadership Medal is awarded to US government employees only for notably outstanding leadership which affects technical or administrative programs of NASA. The leadership award may be given for an act of leadership, for sustained contributions based on a leaders effectiveness, for the productivity of the leaders program, or for the leaders demonstrated ability in developing the administrative or technical talents of other employees
