The recipient was a Nepalese soldier of Gurkha ethnicity, who held the rank of 'Sepoy' (Private) while serving with the Eastern Battalion, Burma Military Police, in the period circa 1930
The Eastern Battalion of the Burma Military Police, was raised in 1926, and had its Headquarters located at Myitkina, in North Burma (where a sister 'Western Battalion' of the Burma Military Police, was also raised in 1926 and had its HQ) Both battalions only existed under their respective 'Eastern' & 'Western' titles 1928-1937. On the separation of Burma from British India in 1937, in which year the Burma Military Police was redesignated 'The Burma Frontier Force', and the former Eastern and Western Battalions of the B.M.P, were amalgamated to form the Myitkyina Battalion, Burma Frontier Force
