Killed-in-Action: Gunner William Whyte, "D" Battery, 71st Brigade, Royal Field Artillery of the Royal Regiment of Artillery, is confirmed having been Killed-in-Action, in France, on, 22 April 1917

The body of Gunner William Whyte was recovered from the battlefield, and now lies buried in France. The life & supreme self-sacrifice of, Gunner William Whyte, is commemorated in perpetuity by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission, at the Feuchy Chapel British Cemetery, located at Wancourt, France, where a memorial cross, is engraved with his service details and the epitaph:

William Whyte, son of Robert Tom Whyte (a Journeyman Tailor) and Marjory Whyte, was a native of Alyth, Perthshire, Scotland, where he was born n 1896. The 1901 National Census for Scotland, records William (a scholar) living with his parents, 4 x siblings (comprising elder brothers, David Whyte, Robert T. Whyte & younger brother James Whyte, and an older sister, Lizzie Whyte) together with his maternal Grandmother and Uncle. In 1901, the family resided at, 81 Airlie Street, Alyth, Perthshire, Scotland
