Medal verification: The campaign medal rolls for the Indian Armed Force including Auxiliary Force India units that served in the Second World War are not in the public domain. However, the recipients entitlement to the Efficiency Medal is confirmed per below cited authority:

- Efficiency Medal: Published in Indian Army Order No. 838 of 1937, the medal awarded to Private E. Mascarenhas Bengal Nagpur Railway Battalion A.F.I., on 7 September 1937

The Bengal Nagpur Railway Battalion: The origins & subsequent chronology of the unit was;

- 1888: Raised as Bengal-Nagpur Volunteer Rifle Corps
- 1897: Re-styled as Bengal-Nagpur Railway Volunteer Rifles
- 1900: Reverted to its former name Bengal-Nagpur Volunteer Rifle Corps, and expanded to 2 x Battalions
- 1917: The respective battalions of the regiment were re-styled as 1-36th & 2-36th Bengal Nagpur Railway Battalion (Indian Defence Force)
- 1920: Re-styled as Bengal Nagpur Railway Regiment of the Auxiliary Force India
- 1933: Re-styled as Bengal Nagpur Railway Battalion
- 1947: The unit was 'Stood Down' (as with all units of the Auxiliary Force India) on 14 August 1947
