John Red enlisted for the British Army on, 23 October 1915, and was posted to the King's Own Scottish Borderers, in which he served overseas with 4th (Border) Battalion King's Own Scottish Borderers (Territorial Force). John Reid was later transferred to the Northumberland Fusiliers, and served with 2/7th Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers. John Reid took his final discharge from the British Army on, 4 August 1919.
