African Police Meritorious Service Medal. GV Second type. Awarded circa 1931-1937
Un-named and un-attributed
Reference 'British Gallantry Awards' (Abbot & Tamplin, 1981) only an estimated 99 x awards of this type of medal were made in the period 1931-1937, including one x award for 'Gallantry'
During the entire existence of the African Police Medal for Meritorious Service 1915-1938, the authors estimated that a total of 331 x awards were made. Which by era were 1915-1930 222 x GV first issue medals; 1931-1937 99 x GV second issue medals, and 1938 10 x GVI issue award
Important: While the total numbers of medals that were gazetted may be as above, there would, of course been some overlap +/- between the start / stop dates of each reign / medal type, and so the actual numbers of 2nd type MSM's may be significantly less than the estimated figure of 99 x awards
The medal was awarded to native all-ranks in the below following African colonies & territories, for which we are also shown the estimated number of awards 1931-37:
Gambia: No awards
Gold Coast: x 16 awards
