The National Service Medal is an unofficial commemorative medal co-sponsored by the Royal British Legion, and was conceived to meet demand amongst armed forces veteran groups in the United Kingdom to have a medal to recognize the British men and who served as conscripts during the Second World War (1939-1945), and those who were conscripted under the National Service scheme that operated between 1947-1960
