Palestine: People's Liberation Front for Palestine. 'Resistance Medal' (circa 1970's)
Metal: Bronzed metal
Weight: 23g
Dimensions: 40mm (h) x 30mm (w)
Suspension: Pierced with small ring suspension
Obverse: In centre an armed Palestinian resistance fighter, in combat attire, with raised arm with rifle, standing astride a commercial jetliner with 'Star of David'. Top legend in Arabic, and below in English 'We will fight the enemy everywhere'
Reverse: Map of the disputed land of Palestine / Israel, with biforcated word 'PALESTINE'. Above a legend in Arabic, and below the English abbreviation P.F.L.P.
This medal - presumably a 'Fund-Raiser - dates from the early 1970's, the depiction of the grounded aircraft clearly being an icon reflecting the spate of hi-jacking of commercial aircraft - and ultimately their destruction- by the armed branch of the P.F.LP. that occurred at Dawsons Field Airstrip, Jordan, in 1970
