Edwin Percy Symonds, a 'Grocer' from Bletchley, Bedfordshire, England, attested for service in the British Army on, 11 October 1897, on which date he was posted to the Coldstream Guards. Edwin subsequently served with the Coldstreams during the South African War, and later served during the Great War with the Military Foot Police in France & Flanders. He served with the British Expeditionary Force on the Western Front from 9 August 1914. Advanced Sergeant, he was discharged on 13 January 1919 and awarded a Silver War Badge, No. B173762.
