William Stewart, son of Daniel Stewart, was a native of Perth, Scotland, where he was born circa 1876. William enlisted in the British Army at Perth, 4 January 1895, by trade a 'Farm Servant' he was 18 years & 2 months of age. His terms of engagement were to be 7 x years 'With the Colours' & 5 x years with the 'Army Reserve'. On enlistment he was posted to the Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders, and after completion of his training was then posted to 1st Battalion Queens Own Cameron Highlanders.
