Important: A search of the medal roll WO,100/33 as well as the reference book 'Rifle Green in the Crimea' (George Caldwell & Robert Cooper, 1994) shows that Sergeant George Brown is the only 'G. Brown' who served in the Crimea with the 2nd Battalion Rifle Brigade, and was awarded a Crimea Medal

George Brown had enlisted in the British Army sometime before 1851, as he is recorded serving overseas in Canada during the first quarter of 1851, at which time No. 2700 George Brown was holding the rank Private and is recorded stationed at Kingston, Ontario, in the return for period 1 January to 1 to 31 March 1851 (The British Army Worldwide Index, ref WO 12/10142)
