John Denis Timmons was born in 1925 and enlisted in the British Army as a 'Boy Soldier' at the tender age of 14 on 6 July 1939. Serving with them throughout the Second World War, taking part in the North West Europe Campaign 1944-45. In the immediate post-war operations he served as a War Substantive Sergeant with the 5th Ind Field Regiment in Java, Netherlands East Indies (now Indonesia) under higher formation 5th Indian Division - or, 'Ball of Fire' Division
On, 1 October 1951, John transferred to the Royal Electrical Mechanical Engineers, and subsequently served in the Korean War, being deployed to Korea in December 1952, and where he remained for a year before being posted home. After spending time in Hong Kong & Aden he left the army in June 1965, after some 25 years of service. He was later employed as a mechanical fitter for the War Officer and died at Amesbury, on 3 January 1969
