Herbert Campbell Duff was a native of Pretoria, South Africa, where he was born, 30 September 1917 and attested on 11 October 1939. He served on Afrikander from 11 October 1939 until 27 May 1940, and then Shropshire from 28 May 1940 to 4 December 1941 before seeing service on Drake from 5 December 1941 to 5 January 1942. Duff then went to Drake (Royal Naval Hospital) from 6 January to 19 March 1942 before returning to Drake briefly from 20 March to 13 April 1942. Duff then served on Afrikander III from 14 April until 30 October 1942 before serving for a while on Gnu from 1 November 1942 to 12 February 1945. Duff returned to Afrikander on 13 February 1945 before moving to Cumberland from 4 March to l7 April 1945. He was then aboard the Hospital Ship H.M.H.S. Amarapoora on 8 April until 28 August 1945 before returning to Afrikander from 29 August to 28 September 1945. Herbert Campbell Duff was discharged on 5 October 1945 and his medals despatched on 7 May 1953
