Volunteer Decoration. Victorian cypher. With integral top brooch bar
Important: The Volunteer Decoration was instituted in 1892
Reverse of the decoration with English silver maker mark & hallmarks for London 1893 - also with h/m on suspension jump ring
Positive Attribution: An un-named but positively attributed award to Major Robert Thomson Gillon V.D., 2nd Volunteer Battalion Scottish Rifles (awarded to recipient as Quartermaster and Hony Captain , per publication notice in the London Gazette issue of, 12 December 1893
Sold together with:
- Newspaper clippings pertaining to the recipient (see attached images)
- Original plush leatherette hinged case of issue. This with fitted recess and the silk panel with makers logo for R&S Garrard & Co.
The award retaining its original silk riband, and the integral top riband bar retaining its hinged pin and clasp fittings as issued
An attractive example with good gilt finish
