The recipients 5 digit regimental number indicates that he had served prior 1922, with either the 17th Cavalry, or the 37th Lancers, and from 1922 served with 15th Lancers which cavalry regiment was raised on 15 February 1922 through the amalgamation of the former 17 Cavalry& 37th Baluch Cavalry regiments. In 1932 the 15th Lancers were removed from the 'Order of Battle' and became the permanent training regiment of the 1st Indian Cavalry Group, which was stationed at Jhansi Cantonment located in Central India
