India General Service Medal 1908-1935. EDVII silver issue with clasp 'North West Frontier 1908' (724 Dvr Mohammed Zaman. No 8 Mtn.B.R.G.A,)

The recipient Mohammed Zaman was by ethnicity and faith a Punjabi Mussalman native soldier holding the rank of 'Driver' while serving with the 8th Mountain Battery Royal Garrison Artillery of the British Army in India

The recipient and his unit participated in the Mohmand Campaign April-May 1908, during which No. 8 Mountain Battery served with the Divisional Troops of the Mohmand Field Force

In the early 20th century it was the practise that Mountain Batteries, as well as Field, Medium and Light Battery's, of the 'British Army in India' included Indian soldiers who had been locally enlisted and trained in India for service with Royal Artillery units as 'Drivers'. When the British Army Artillery units returned to the United Kingdom after their tour of duty in India, the Indian 'Drivers' remained in India to be posted to other incoming British artillery units
