Reference file series WO23 - Royal Hospital Chelsea: Admission Books, Registers, And Papers 1702-1876, held at The National Archives, it is is recorded that Gunner William Webb of the Madras Artillery, was on 26 July 1861, residing in Liverpool, England, and drawing a pension of 1 Shilling per day. He was described as being employed as a 'Striker' (a Blacksmith's assistant) and was of good character, 39 years of age, 5 feet 7 3/4 inches of height with light brown hair, a fair complexion & with grey eyes. William, who is shown to have been a native of Liverpool, is shown to have served a total of 21 years military service, prior to taking his final discharge as 'Time Expired'
