Prisoner of War: Private William Temple 13th Platoon, 'D' Coy 1st Battalion King's Own Scottish Borderers is confirmed captured in at Estaires, France, 11 April 1918, during the German 'Spring Offensive'. He was subsequently interred at 'Lager Dulmen' in Germany, being repatriated on 24 November 1918, and returning to the United Kingdom on, 25 November 1918

Soldiers Service Papers: The recipient's record of service is extant and held in the 'Burn't File Series' at the National Archives, and shows that William Temple had the below following record of service with the King's Own Scottish Borderers of the British Army:

- British Expeditionary Force France & Flanders: 12/12/1917 - 10/06/1918
- Germany (Prisoner of War): 11/06/1918* - 24/11/1918
- Home: 25/11/1918 - 07/10/1919

All German and IRC POW records show that William was captured on 11 April 1918 - the later date of 11 June 1918, shown in his British Service Records pertains to the date that an official letter was first received by the British advising them that William Temple was alive and being held in Germany
