Alexander Vernon enlisted in the British Army sometime during the inter-war years, at which time on his enlistment he was posted to the Kings Own Scottish Borderers and issued the unique Army number No 3188086 which was from the regimental block 3178001-3233000 that was allocated to the Wiltshire Regiment in 1920, and unique army numbers thereafter issued sequentially to all new enlistments posted to the K.O.S.B.regiment on joining the British Amy between 1920-1941. The recipient's extant Second World War card, show that Alexander Vernon (born 1917) held the rank of Company Quartermaster Sergeant in the K.O.S.B. when he took his initial discharge from the British Army on, 28 May 1948, with the WW2 medals being forwarded to the below following United Address on 13 April 1949:

Alexander Vernon re-enlisted into the British Army on, or after 28 May 1948, subsequently serving with 1st Battalion Royal Scots. He is recorded to have died in Scotland sometime during.
2nd Battalion King's Own Scottish Borderer's 1939-45: Prior to the outbreak of the Second World, 2/KOSB were in British India in 1939. Through to November 1942 they were at Razmak on the North West Frontier of India, after which the battalion moved to Peshawar. After a period of training for June Warfare, 2/KOSB sailed with the 7th (Indian) Division to Burma in September 1943. 2/KOSB crossed into the Arakan, and took part in the critical actions at Ngakydauk Pass and in the ‘Admin Box’, where 2 COs were killed. Later they were flown to the central front at Imphal. In early 1945 they marched towards the Irrawaddy and took part in the assault that turned the Irrawaddy line. The Battalion’s last battle took place at Prome in May 1945, by which time Rangoon had fallen and the Japanese Army’s defeat in Burma was assured
1st Battalion Royal Scots: Was the fourth and last Scottish infantry regiment to serve in theatre during the Korean War - embarked for Korea on 2 June 1954, and disembarked at Pusan, Korea, on 7 July 1954. The Royal Scots were in Korea when the 'Cease Fire' was declared on 27 July 1954, and continued to serve in theatre through to June 1954. During it's service n Korea, the regiment suffered the loss of three 'Jocks' who died there, and whose bodies are interred on Korean soil
