Medals and Clasps Verification: There were no medal rolls compiled for the Turkish issue Crimea Medal - the medal was however an automatic award for any British soldier who had qualified for a British issue Crimea Medal. The British issue Crimea Medal and clasp, & Indian Mutiny Medal confirmed as entitled per the respective medal rolls cited below:
- Crimea Medal 1854. With clasp: WO 100/24 (the roll marked H&R. for where the medal was named)
- Indian Mutiny Medal. With clasp 'Central India': WO 100/35
- Turkey Crimea Medal: An automatic entitlement for British soldiers who had qualified for a Crimea Medal
Important: The 6th Dragoon Guards (Carabineers) were located at Meerut Cantonment where the Indian Mutiny broke out in 1857 - the regiment subsequently saw considerable action against the Indian Rebels. The Indian Mutiny Medal Roll is marked to show that the recipients qualifying service for which he earned the medal, was present during the Meerut Campaign and served under Brigadier Seaton in the actions fought at Kukrowlie, Bareilly and Rohilcund
No. 1145 Private George Dyer joined the British Army sometime after 1851, and was posted to the 6th Dragoon Guards, a Cavalry Regiment of the British Army. He subsequently served with his regiment in both the Crimean War and later the Indian Mutiny. He was still serving with the British Army in 1861 (The British Worldwide Index - issued every 10 years - refers, showing him located 'on ship' having last been at Meerut Cantonment in India (place of the outbreak of the Indian Mutiny), in 1861. George Dyer, had taken his discharge from the British Army sometime circa 1862-1870.
