Netherlands Expeditions Cross (Expeditie-Kruis). 1st type obverse portrait of King Willhelm with clasp 'Borneo 1850-1854.'
The clasp commemorates a colonial expedition to the West Coast of Borneo where the Dutch Colonial forces sought to subdue Malay and migrant Chinese, which latter included as many 30,000 members who were organized in numerous secret societies known as 'Kongsi'
The campaign lasted about 4 years, during which the original commanding officer of the Dutch force, Lieutenant-Colonel F. J. Sorg was mortally wounded in battle. The campaign concluded in 1854, when the force under command of Lieutenant-Colonel A.J. Anderson, sacked the town of Montrado
