Monte Cassino Casualty: The 'Register of Casualties Second World War' for 1st Battalion 2nd Gurkha Rifles includes, No. 2675 Rfn Dhanjit Gurung, who was returned as 'Wounded-in-Action', on 16 March1944, in theatre 'Mid East/ Italy' (the use of Mid East refers to the Higher Geographic Command 'Middle East Land Force'

There was only one soldier of name 'Dhanjit Gurung' serving in 1st Battalion 2nd Gurkha Rifles, who was 'Wounded-in-Action; during the Italy campaign

Important: Without exception - all Gurkha Ranks - who had served during the Second World War, and subsequently transferred to the British Army on 1 January 1948, were allocated new unique British Army numbers, the Gurkha Other Ranks receiving their eight digit numbers from the block issued to the Gurkha Brigade, with all numbers starting with the digits 2113....... 

Dhanjit Gurung, was a Nepalese soldier of Gurkha ethnicity. who came from Western Nepal and who held the rank of Rifleman while serving with the 1st Battalion 2nd Gurkha Rifles (The Sirmoor Rifles), firstly in the British Indian Army and then in the British Army from 1 January 1948 

Note: All Indian Independence medals awarded to Gurkha 'Other-Ranks' of the 8 x Gurkha battalions that transferred to the British Army with effect from 1 January 1948, were issued officially impressed showing the recipients new unique British Army service numbers
