At the time of being wounded-in-action, Fred was serving on attachment with the 56th Trench Mortar Battery
9/ Cheshire joined the 56th Infantry Brigade of 19th Western Division in February 1918, in the same month 56th Trench Mortar Battery of 19th Western Division had been re-formed (it had originally been established on, 17 June 1916, then broken up 5 February 1918, and reformed 6 March 1918)
Such were the severity of the wounds he received in the early days of the German Spring Offensive, that Fred was quickly evacuated back to England for subsequent treatment and recovery

Frederick 'Fred' Shore, the third son of Harry Shore (a Farmer) and Mary Jane Shore was a native of, Moorsbarrow, Middlewich, Cheshire, England, where he was born on, 19 May 1896. At the time of the compilation of the National Census of England and Wales in 1911, 'Fred' is shown residing with his parents and four siblings (3 x brothers, William Shore, Harry Shore, and Frank Shore & 1 x sister, Ethel Shore. at their farm which had the postal address, The Lodge, Moorsbarrow nr Middlewich, Cheshire, England. In spite of being 'Wounded-in-Action' (Gunshot & Shrapnel Wound to the 'Chin') Fred was fortunate to survive the Great War, and after taking his discharge from the British Army he returned to the family farm in Cheshire, where in 1921 the National Census for England & Wales records him working as a 'Horseman on Farm'. Later that year, on 26 November 1921, Fred (described as Farmer) married Ann Roberts'. Fred Shore is recorded to have died at Banbury, Oxfordshire, England, sometime during the 2nd quarter of 1968
