Harry King was a native of, Salisbury, Wiltshire, England, where he was born on, 25 September 1880. He attested for service in the British Army at Salisbury, on 25 April 1899. On enlistment he was posted to the Royal Regiment of Artillery. He transferred to the Army Pay Corps as a Private on 3 April 1901, and was promoted Corporal on 3 April 1902; Sergeant on 3 April 1907; and Staff Sergeant on 29 June 1912. He served throughout the Great War at home; was promoted Staff Quartermaster Sergeant on 29 June 1915, and was awarded his Long Service and Good Conduct Medal per Army Order 333 of 1916. Promoted Staff Sergeant Major on 25 June 1920, he was commissioned Lieutenant in the Royal Army Pay Corps on 24 January 1929, and was promoted Captain on 24 January 1937, and temporary Major on 13 June 1940. Appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire in 1940, he was promoted temporary Lieutenant-Colonel on 24 June 1941, and was finally retired on 21 August 1945. He died in Teignmouth on 16 June 1954
