Albert Edward Etheridge, son of William Etheridge (a Glass-Cutter) & Hannah Etheridge (nee Hesford) was a native of, Lower Broughton, Lancashire, England, where he was born, 17 February 1881, and who was baptised at the Parish of the Sacred Trinity, Salford, Lancashire, 9 March 1881. At the time of his birth and baptism, his family were resident at,  4 Lomond Street, Camp Road, Salford, Lancashire. By trade a 'Glass-Cutter', Albert was 20 years and 1 month of age, when on 29 March 1900, he enlisted at Leeds, Yorkshire (where he and his parents & family lived at, 89 Burley Lodge Terrace, Leeds) for service with the British Army, on a 1 Year Short Service Engagement for overseas service in South Africa. Prior to enlisting, Albert cited prior service with the local (Leeds) 3rd Volunteer Battalion West Yorkshire Service. After being posed to the Volunteer Company West Yorkshire Regiment, he then served overseas in South Africa where the Volunteer Draft Company were attached to 2nd Battalion West Yorkshire Regiment. His record of service was:

- Home: 29/03/1879 - 15/03/1901
- South Africa: 16/03/1901 - 26/02/1902

Albert was evidently a 'Patriot', as during the era of the Great War he is recorded serving in the British Army with the 'Home' based Royal Defence Corps (No. 23060) being discharged, 14 March 1919. Like his father before him, Albert had a career in the glass making industry in which he was employed as a 'Glass-Embosser'. In later life he worked, and lived with his family in  Sunderland, England. At the time of the compilation of the 1939 National Register for England & Wales, he was residing with his wife Margaret Ann Etheridge, at 63 Newcastle Road, Sunderland, England, and is shown in the remarks column as being employed in a Civil Defence capacity as a 'Warden' with Air Raid Precaution, or A.R.P.  Albert Edward Etheridge is recorded to have died at his Sunderland home, on 31 December 1945
