The insignia complete with original 2 reverse loop fittings 'E' & 'W' as issued. The third loop 'N' removed to facilitate wear as a cap-badge. The reverse of the crown with reinforced rod, and most curiously - and nice as a customised cap badge - the veteran has applied / added additional thistle leaves between the each side of the crown and saltire

Worn in uniform, by 'Other Ranks' of the regiment, including the era of the Second Afghan War 1878-80 in which the 25th Foot served

In 1887, the regiment was restyled King's Own Scottish Borderers, (the K.O.S.B.)
