Captured at Kut-al-Amara & Died as Prisoner-of-War of the Ottoman Turkish Army: Naik Muhammad Zaman, 104th Wellesley's Rifles of the British Indian Army, was amongst the remnants of his regiment captured at Kut-al-Amara on 29 April 1916, and subsequently died in Ottoman captivity on 4 February 1917

The life and supreme sacrifice of Naik Muhammad Zaman (shown as Muahhmad Zaman Khan in CWGC records), was the son of Fakir Khan of Khokar, Jhelum, Punjab (located in present day Pakistan), is commemorated in perpetuity by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission. The CWGC record the name and service details of Muhammad Zaman at the Basra Memoria, on two memorial panales vis, the panel dedicated to the Regiment, and that pertaining to the 'Prisoners of War' who died in captivity

Muhammad Zaman was by ethnicity & faith a Punjabi Mussalman holding the rank of Naik (Corporal) while serving with the 1st Battalion 67th Punjab Regiment, an infantry unit of the British Indian Army. He was the son of Abbas Khan of Jatu, Haripur, Hazara, North West Frontier Province, located in present day Pakistan

104th Wellesley's Rifles: The regiment had its origins in 1775, when they were raised as the 5th Battalion, Bombay Sepoys. After several  changes to their regimental designation, the regiment was re-styled as 1014th Wellesley's Rifles in 1903, and in 1922 became, the 1st Battalion 6th Rajputana Rifles. In August 1947, the Rajputana Rifles were allocated to the Indian Army, and following independence 1/Raj Rife was selected to become one of the battalions of the newly formed 'Gurda Regiment'. The descendent unit in 2026, now thrives in the Indian Army as 3 Guards (1 Rajputana Rifles)
