In August 1945, the numered regimental prefix 17th was dropped from the name of the former 17th Dogra Regiment, the regiment thereafter called the 'Dogra Regiment'
The Indian soldier Chan, was by ethnicity a Dogra Rajputof the Hindu faith, who held the rank of 'Rifleman' while serving with a battalion of the Dogra Regiment, an infantry unit of the British Indian Army
