Audrey had a younger sibling brother, Ronald Holenby Balne who was born in Johannesburg, South Africa on, 15 August 1919. Audrey was posted to the South African Military Nursing Service, and served at 4 (South African) General Hospital, Buscelli; 5 (South African) General Hospital, Helmieh; 101 (Non-European) (South African) General Hospital, Tahag; and 102 (South African) Combined General Hospital, Egypt and Italy.
