The Burma medals were only ever issued to native troops -in gold for officers, and in silver for 'Other Ranks'. European Officers of Indian regiments, and all British Officers and other ranks of the British Army and Indian Marine vessels were latterly awarded the retrospective Army of India Medal with clasp 'Ava', for their services in the Burma War of 1826
