George Arthur Baldwin eldest son of George Arthur Baldwin (a professional soldier serving with the Royal Engineers of the British Army) and Rachel Eliza Baldwin (nee Bloom) was a native of, Poplar, London, England, where he was born on 16 November 1885. George, followed his father into a career as a Professional Soldier joining the family corps 'Royal Engineers' when as a 14 year old boy, he enlisted in January 1900 under 'Boy Service' terms of contract. During the Great War he served with the Egyptian Field Force in the Palestine Campaign. He was awarded his L.S. and G.C. Medal in January 1918 and mentioned in General Allenby’s despatch dated 3 April 1918, for distinguished services in the Palestine operations. Post-war, Baldwin was posted to North China, where he appears to have taken his discharge and found employment as a civilian Foreman of Works in Tientsin. George Arthur Baldwin died in Gosport, Hampshire in April 1966
