By ethnicity and faith the recipient Abbas Ali Khan was a Punjabi Mussalman who held the rank of Naib-Daffadar (Lance-Sergeant) while serving with the 2nd Regiment Central India Horse, a cavalry regiment of the British Indian Army

Viceroy's Commissioned Officer: Abbas Ali Khan served in the British Indian Army for a period of 33 years, 1887-1920. Abbas Ali Khan enlisted in the British Indian Army on 29 March 1887. He was first appointed a Native Officer in 1907and his record of promotions were:

- 01/07/1907: Appointed 'Jemadar'
- 07/12/1914: Promoted 'Ressaidar' (per IA List of April 1920, recipient was the seniormost 'Ressaidar' with remark 'With Remount Depot, Deoali'

Medal & Clasps Verification & War Services: The Indian Army List Supplement of January 1920 records the War Services of Ressidar Abbas Ali Khan of the then 39th King Heorge's Own Central India Horse as;

- N.-W. Frontier of India 1897-98, - Operations on the Samana and in the Kurram Valley during August and September 1897 - Medal with 2 clasps

- Tirah, Operations against the Khan Khhel Chamkanis.- Clasp

- War, 1914-18

Establishment of 2nd Regiment of Central India Horse 1896: 4 x Squadron Commanders, 4 x Squadron Officers, 1 x Medical Officer, 4 x Risaldars, 4 x Ressaidars, 1 x Woordie-Major, 8 x Jemadars, 8 x Kote-Daffadars, 56 x Daffadars, 5 x Trumpeters & 536 x Sowars (including 16 x Camel Sowars) = Total 625 x All-Ranks

Central India Horse: The regiment has its origins dating back to 1858, when the unit was raised as a Local Corps. Subsequent changes saw two regiments restyled respectively as 1st and 2nd Regiments of Central India Horse,  which became the 38th and 39th regiments of Central India Horse in 1903. In 1922 the two units were amalgamated to form the Central India Horse (21st King George's Own Horse). Upon India's independence, the Central India Horse (21st King George V's Own Horse) was allocated to India, at which time the Muslim Punjabi squadron was transferred to the 19th King George V's Own Lancers (which regiment was allocated to Pakistan) in exchange for its Jat squadron. When India became a republic in 1950, the regiment dropped its royal title, and was renamed The Central India Horse. The regiment continues to serve in 2024, as a Tank Regiment of the Armoured Corps of the Indian Army
