Medals Verification: British Army Second World War medal rolls are not in the public domain as of 2026. Unhelpfully the soldiers extant service record is both illegible & confusing in part and only shows endorsement for a 'War Medal' - while the very same papers clearly show that the recipient easily met the 3 years 'Home Service' (31/07/41 - 03/11/44) time criteria for the award of Defence Medal' prior to his departure for overseas service in India (04/11/44 - 17/05/46). His accompanying Service & Pay Book, has a label showing he served with '4th Inf.W/Shop Coy. REME. S.E.A.C.' indicating that he latterly served with 'SEAC' - and as only forward areas in the borders of East and North East India fell under the geographic scope of 'South East Asia Command', it is highly likely the 1939-45 Star was awarded in respect of 6 months qualifying in theatre while another 1 day service in theatre would have qualified for The Burma Star while serving on the strength of a unit in theatre. Below is a summary of what medals the recipient is known to have been entitled, and those he was possibly entitled to with cited reference sources where known
- The 1939-45 Star. No clasp: If in qualifying theatre for 180 days would have been entitled (he served India 04/11/44 - 17/05/46)
- The Burma Star. No clasp: If in qualifying theatre for 1 day on strength of a unit (he served India - and SEAC - 04/11/44 - 17/05/46)
- Defence Medal: Confirmed entitled for 3 years 'Home Service' (31/07/41-03/11/44). Service dates confirmed per docs
