The recipient Ghulam Mohammed was by ethnicity and faith a Punjabi Mussalman, who in 1950, was holding the Junior Commissioned Officer rank of Jemadar while serving with a battalion of the 8th Punjab Regiment of the Pakistan Army

The only division - but not all members or member units - of the British Indian Army to qualify for both The Africa Star and The Burma Star, was 5th Indian Division, which formation's divisional emblem earned them the name 'Ball of Fire' division

At partition the 1st, 2nd 3rd & 4th regular battalions only of 8th Punjab Regiment were transferred to the Pakistan Army. The Sikh companies of the former British Indian Army 8th Punjab transferring to the Sikh Regiment of the Indian Army, and the 8th Punjab received the Mussalman companies from the former Sikh Regiment battalions. The incoming Mussalman troops from former Indian Army units, came from several regiments and not just the Sikh Regiments.

The medals are mounted as-worn in the swing-style, and as-worn by the recipient in the correct order of precedence that prevailed from the Republic era 1956 and after. The medals suspended from silk ribands from a metal mounting bar, this latter with mounting pin(s) removed
