Brown's medals were originally to be issued care of his father Major Frank Brown, Lissmore, College Road, Newton Abbot, but were subsequently but were issued to him in July 1923 at Little Lammas, Esher, Surrey.

Geoffrey Record Brown was the son of Frank McCabe Brown (served as Major in A.S.C. 1914-18 with multiple MID's.) and Beatrice Maude Brown (nee Record), was a native of Putney, Surrey, England, where he was born on, 10 October 1898. At the time of the compilation of the National Census for England & Wales in 1911, Geoffrey is recorded at age of 12 and was one of 12 'Boarders' resident at The Winchester House School, Eastbourne, Sussex. Geoffrey was commissioned in to the Indian Army on 1 May 1917, as a Second-Lieutenant in the Indian Army Reserve of Officers. Amongst his early regimental postings were: postings taken from various issues of the Indian Army List, show him attached to 3rd Battalion 7th Gurkha Rifles, then 4th Battalion 11th Gurkha Rifles, and finally 2nd Battalion Kumaon Rifles (late 2/50th Kumaon Rifles).

Geoffrey Record Brown appears never to have married. At the time of the compilation of the National Register for England & Wales in 1939, Geoffrey is recorded therein residing at 41 Deans Way, Edgware, Hendon, Middlesex. His employment at that time is shown as 'Indian Army Office' - with a remark showing that he was a volunteer member of 'ARP Ambulance'. Post-war he is recorded to have been employed in Pakistan, with an extant passenger shipping manifest showing him on 23 August 1951, disembarking at the port of London from the S.S. Ranchi - a P. & O.S.N.Co liner - the manifest showing that he had boarded at Bombay, and that his last place of permanent  residence was stated to be Pakistan, where he was employed as a 'Colirete Supervisor' (which may indicate employment in the Cosmetic Industry), his future UK address given as, Yew Close, Wells, Somerset. Geoffrey Record Brown died in the borough of Chelsea & Kensington, London, England on 11 November 1980, and his body was cremated there on 19 November 1980

2/50th Kumaon Rifles: Raised at Bareilly Cantonment in June 1918, comprised of two companies of Kumaoni Rajputs; one company of Kumaoni Brahmins and one company of Garhwali Brahmins. 2/50th Kumon Rifles remained in British India during the Great War and Third Afghan War, and its only active service was on the North West Frontier of India in the period 1919-1922 (Indian Army lists for that period confirm locations as Peshawar 1919, and in Waziristan 1921-22). During which qualifying members of the regiment, earned one or more of the below following medal clasps to the India General Service Medal 1909-35, where eligible:

- 'Waziristan 1919-21'
- 'Mahsud 1920-21'
- 'Waziristan 1921-24'

Initially the two battalions of 50th Kumaon Rifles regiment drew most of it's British officers, for example Geoffrey Record Brown, on attachment from the Indian Army Reserve of  Officers. 2/50th Kumaon Rifles was disbanded in March 1923, and the former 1/50th Kumaon Rifles was re-styled as 'Kumaon Rifles' a stand-alone single-class battalion, that from 1923 was grouped with the 19th Hyderabad Regiment was remaining . The 50th Kumaon Rifles were reduced briefly restyled the 'Kumaon  Rifles' in 1923, in which year the regiment with the Kumaon Rifles reduced to a single battalion 'Kumaon Rifles' regiment that was disbanded in 1923

A rare named to unit IGS 1908 medal to a British Office of the Kumaon Rifles - the IGS 1908 GV 1st issue being the only campaign medal issued named to the extremely short lived 2/50th Kumaon Rifles (1918-1923)

The medals professionally court mounted, presumably as-worn by the recipient. The reverse of the medal mounting bar retainin its stout pin & clasp fittings
