Bangalore India Fatal Casualty: Private Hood died of Meningitis at 5 Stat Hospital, Bangalore, Madras, India on 1 September 1916 and is buried at Hosur Road Cemetery, Bangalore, India. He was born on the 4th August 1887 and lived at 40 Postley Road, Maidstone, Kent United and was married Rosina Parrin in 1913.

Died of Disease: Private Herbert Hood, is confirmed having died of Meningitis at Bangalore Cantonment (now Bengaluru, Karnataka), India, on 1 September 1916

The body of Private Herbert Hood, lies buried in a plot at the Hosur Road Cemetery, Bangalore, India, where under a memorial headstone the life and patriotic sacrifice of Herbert Hood is commemorated in perpetuity by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission

Herbert Harold Hood, son of George Hood (a 'Paper Bag Maker') & Susan Elizabeth Hood (nee Waters) was a native of Maidstone, Kent, England, where he was born on 4 August 1887, and where he was baptized on 7 November 1887. By the time of the 1911 National Census for England & Wales, Herbert , is recorded employed as an 'Engineer Fitter', and was living at home with his widowed mother and 4 x sibling brothers, at the family residence located at, 35 Stone Street, Maidstone. Herbert married Rosina Parrin at Maidstone on 4 August 1913. Latterly the couple lived at 40 Postley Road, Maidstone, Kent
