James Mortimer Score, son of William Score & Mary Score (nee) was a native of Coventry, Warwickshire, England where he was born on 5 September 1889 and enlisted in the Army Service Corps at Islington on 9 August 1914. Transferred to the York and Lancaster Regiment, he served with the 6th Battalion in Egypt from 20 September 1915 and was advanced Sergeant in December 1917. He later joined the Army Pay Corps at Cologne in the rank of Private 1 May 1920, and was awarded the L.S. & G.C. Medal in 1933. Sent to Malta from 16 November 1935 to 25 May 1940, he returned to London as Warrant Officer 1st Class and died at the Military Hospital, Shrewsbury on 30 December 1945
The memory of the life and service of Staff Sergeant-Major James M. Score, is commemorated in perpetuity by the Commonwealth War Garaves Commission at Heston (St. Leonard) Churchyard located in Middlesex, England - where another 118 service personnel of both World Wars are interred - where the burial plot of James Score has a CWGC memorial headstone, engraved with the regimental insignia of the Royal Army Pay Corps and the name and service details of the late Staff Sergeant-Major, who was the son of William and Mary Score & husband of Ethel Lilian Score of Hounslow
