The RVM & Delhi Durbar Medals are identically named in super period engraving - a master-class by the engraver - the naming occupying the entire rim of both medals
The abbreviation K.G.V.C. on both medals is for 'King George V Camp' - the vast tented encampment that was established for 'The Great Durbar' - the only occasion on which a ruling British monarch visited British India

Henry Nicholl was born on 2 October 1874 (Indian Army lists refer). After earlier service with the Royal Artillery (the medal roll of the Delhi Durbar Medal 1911, shows that recipient held the Royal Artillery regimental number 22217). Henry transferred into the Indian Army, where he served many years with the Indian Ordnance Department He was first commissioned 'Sub-Conductor' on 21 October 1903, and during the Great War held the rank of 'Conductor'. and was awarded his Royal Victorian Medal on the occasion of H.M. King George V’s visit to India in 1911, for the Delhi Durbar
