The Army Medal for War (Medal Wojska za Wojne) was created in 1945 by the Polish Government  in Exile (located in London) for award to all members of the Polish ground forces - in the West - for service during World War II. The eligibility criteria was: 6 x months of operational service during World War II, or 12 months in a non-operational role. Ornate bronze bars were awarded for further (longer) periods of service - each additional bar denoting a 'double' time period of qualification. A maximum of 4 x further bars could be awarded / worn on the riband
