Army Order 146 of 1947 was the official British War Office directive that authorized the 'Palestine 1945–48' clasp for the General Service Medal (1918). All GSM's with the clasp 'Palestine 1945-48' awarded to personnel of the former British Indian Army, were the very last British campaign medals to be struck at the Royal Mint in the United Kingdom and sent un-named to India and Pakistan for award to former British Indian Army veterans. Only those medals sent to the Calcutta Mint, India, were subsequently issued named. Those distributed in Pakistan, were all un-named. While the GSM with clasp 'Palestine 1945-48' is a common issue medal issue on the market named to units of the British Army, by contrast all those issued named to the former regiments of the British Indian Army are scarce
